After all the effort that has been done it does not stop to amaze me how broken the styling of the Web still is. We should have better tools and standards for creating great Web user experiences. At the very least the browsers should properly implement the current standards. Unfortunately, we still have a long way to go. It can be seen in this collection of experimental draft widgets and selected links related to them. Here are some overall page optimising tips.

While writing this quite simple widget I run into the Explorer peek-a-boo (layout) bug with floats. Then I experimented a little with some vertical align tips from w3c that did not quite work here. In real world I would just crop the images so they would be the same size. However, it would be nice to create more general widgets that can include different types of images or other content.
